U1 small nuclear RNA 35 pseudogene (RNU1-35P)

Target
RNU1-35P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; Non-coding RNA-related element)
01

Overview

RNU1-35P is a pseudogene derived from the U1 small nuclear RNA gene family, characterized by high sequence homology but lacking the regulatory elements and functional coding capacity of canonical U1 snRNA genes. U1 snRNA is an integral component of the U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP), which recognizes 5′ splice sites in pre-mRNA and initiates spliceosome assembly for intron removal. Pseudogenes like RNU1-35P result from gene duplication and mutation events, are generally nonfunctional, and can be genetically clustered apart from true U1 genes. They are not drug targets and have no confirmed biological function or disease association. Their main scientific relevance is in evolutionary genomics and gene regulation studies, but they have no established clinical or therapeutic significance. If you require details on the functional molecule involved in splicing, see entries for "U1 small nuclear RNA" (RNU1-1 and related genes). RNU1-35P does not substitute for those functions.

02

Biological functions

None for the pseudogene itself. The canonical U1 snRNA (not this pseudogene) functions in splicing of pre-mRNA. Pseudogenes themselves do not participate in these biological processes.
03

Disease associations

None for RNU1-35P. The canonical U1 snRNA and related components have links to disease when disrupted, but the pseudogene is not directly implicated.
