U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein protein IMP3 (IMP3) is a protein component of the U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein complex, primarily involved in pre-rRNA processing for the maturation of the small ribosomal subunit (18S rRNA) in eukaryotes[1][2][3]. IMP3 contains an S4 domain and is an essential nucleolar protein required for the correct cleavage of pre-rRNA at specific sites (A0, A1, A2), thereby ensuring accurate ribosome biogenesis[1][2][3]. IMP3 acts by unfolding structured regions in pre-rRNA and U3 snoRNA, promoting their hybridization, which signals for subsequent cleavage necessary for ribosome assembly[2]. IMP3 is not considered a therapeutic target (receptor, enzyme, etc.), has no associated approved drugs, and is mainly classified as an essential biogenesis factor rather than a disease-associated protein[1][2][3].
