Overview

U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein protein IMP4 (IMP4) is a component of the 60–80S U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (U3 snoRNP) complex, which is essential for the early cleavage steps in pre-18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) processing[2][3][5][6]. IMP4, along with IMP3 and MPP10, forms a stable heterotrimeric complex that binds to the U3 snoRNA within the nucleolus and is critical for the maturation of pre-rRNA during ribosome biogenesis[3]. IMP4 contains a characteristic Brix domain and a σ^70-like RNA-binding motif, supporting its interactions with RNA substrates and partner proteins. Although IMP4 is indispensable for ribosome biogenesis, there is currently no evidence to suggest it serves as a direct therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting protein[5][6]. Its role is crucial in supporting fundamental cellular processes rather than modulating disease-specific signaling or being a pharmacological target.
