U5A small nuclear RNA pseudogene 5 (RNU5A-5P) is a non-coding RNA gene annotated as a pseudogene related to the U5 small nuclear RNA family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are generally considered nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements required for expression. The canonical U5 small nuclear RNAs (e.g., RNU5A-1, RNU5B-1) are essential components of the spliceosome, the molecular machine that catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing[1].
