Overview

RNU6-1001P is a pseudogene copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, which in its functional form is a key non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells[1][3]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1001P are defective genomic copies that cannot produce functional snRNA. They are typically generated by L1-mediated retrotransposition, a process where RNA intermediates are reverse transcribed and inserted elsewhere in the genome, often marked by features such as absence of introns and poly(A) tails[2][4].
