U6 small nuclear RNA 1095 pseudogene (RNU6-1095P) is a genomic vestige derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. The canonical U6 snRNA is a highly conserved non-coding RNA involved in pre-mRNA splicing as a core component of the spliceosome[1][3]. In contrast, RNU6-1095P, as a pseudogene, is generally considered non-functional, lacking the ability to produce active RNA. Pseudogenes like RNU6-1095P typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that render them inactive. While some pseudogenes can impact gene regulation through RNA-mediated mechanisms (e.g., acting as competing endogenous RNAs or antisense RNAs), there is no evidence that RNU6-1095P plays a role in human disease or cell biology[4]. It should not be mistaken for the functional U6 snRNA, which is necessary for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3].
