Overview

U6 small nuclear RNA 1287, pseudogene (RNU6-1287P) is a non-coding, non-functional pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA gene. U6 snRNA is normally part of the spliceosome complex and involved in pre-mRNA splicing[1][3]. However, RNU6-1287P is the product of a retrotransposition or genome duplication event, resulting in a sequence that resembles the U6 snRNA gene but lacks biological function[2]. Pseudogenes of U6 are common in vertebrate genomes; they serve primarily as evolutionary relics and markers of retrotransposition activity, with no evidence for regulatory roles or disease involvement[2].
