The U6 small nuclear RNA 78 pseudogene (RNU6-78P) is a non-coding RNA sequence in the human genome classified as a pseudogene of U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA)[1][4][5]. U6 snRNA is a core component of the spliceosome, the ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes, but pseudogenes like RNU6-78P do not produce functional RNA and instead represent inactive, non-coding copies originating from retrotransposition and genomic duplication events[2][4][5]. These pseudogenes are commonly found in multiple copies in the genome and are considered genomic "fossils," lacking known biological function, enzymatic activity, or therapeutic interest[5]. There are no known drugs, disease associations, or roles in cell signaling or pathology. Pseudogenes of U6 snRNA may, however, serve as markers of retrotransposition dynamics in evolutionary and genomic research[5].
