U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSm6 is a protein encoded by the human LSM6 gene and functions as a component of the LSm protein complexes involved in RNA processing, particularly pre-mRNA splicing. LSm6 belongs to the Sm-like protein family, which shares sequence homology with the classical Sm protein family and contains a characteristic Sm sequence motif composed of two regions separated by a loop. LSm6 is a subunit of the tri-snRNP particle essential for spliceosome assembly, a critical step in the maturation of pre-mRNA transcripts. It is primarily localized in the cytoplasm and acts upstream in the mRNA catabolic process. There is no current evidence implicating LSm6 directly as a therapeutic target or biomarker, nor are there associated safety concerns or interacting drugs described in the literature.
