UBA-like domain-containing protein 2 (UBALD2) is a member of the UbL–UBA (ubiquitin-like and ubiquitin-associated domain) containing protein family. Proteins in this family typically interact with ubiquitinated substrates as well as with the proteasome complex, thereby participating in protein quality control and degradation pathways within the cell[3][1]. UBALD2 contains a UBA (ubiquitin-associated) domain that enables interaction with polyubiquitin chains and the proteasome, suggesting a potential role in facilitating or regulating proteasomal degradation of substrate proteins[1][2][3]. While the general UbL–UBA protein family is implicated in protein turnover, DNA repair, and signaling, there is currently no direct evidence establishing UBALD2 as a therapeutic target or connecting it to specific diseases[3]. Its molecular and biological roles are inferred primarily from sequence homology and the known activities of related proteins rather than direct functional or clinical data.
