UBE2F-SCLY represents a naturally occurring read-through transcription event between the neighboring UBE2F (ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2F) and SCLY (selenocysteine lyase) genes located on chromosome 2. This transcript is a candidate for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and is unlikely to produce a functional protein product. Gene ontology annotations for UBE2F-SCLY suggest affiliation with RNA and/or non-coding RNA classes rather than with a protein-coding or functional therapeutic target. There is no evidence that UBE2F-SCLY functions as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any established therapeutic target[1][7].
