Overview

UBE2I antisense RNA 1 (UBE2I-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the UBE2I gene, which encodes the SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBE2I (also known as UBC9)[4][6]. Long non-coding RNAs like UBE2I-AS1 may regulate gene expression through a variety of molecular mechanisms, including acting as competing endogenous RNAs, modulating the stability of mRNAs, or influencing chromatin state, but the specific biological function, disease relevance, and druggability of UBE2I-AS1 remain largely uncharacterized[3]. UBE2I-AS1 should not be confused with its neighboring gene, UBE2I, which encodes a well-characterized protein involved in SUMOylation and has been implicated in cancer and other diseases[2][4][6]. There is currently no evidence that UBE2I-AS1 itself is used as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or safety marker. Note: The protein-coding gene UBE2I (sometimes called UBC9) is a therapeutic target, but UBE2I-AS1 is not. Most published data focus on UBE2I, not its antisense RNA. Antisense lncRNAs like UBE2I-AS1 may regulate the expression of their sense partner, but their therapeutic targeting and biological clarity are currently extremely limited in the literature[3][4][6].

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (potentially via antisense or competing endogenous RNA mechanisms)Other (there is little direct evidence for additional biological roles)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association is clearly established for UBE2I-AS1 using current search results; however, lncRNAs as a class are often studied in cancer, but no evidence for UBE2I-AS1's disease involvement is present in these sources)
