Ubinuclein-2 is a nuclear protein localized to the nucleoplasm, belonging to the ubinuclein family. It is a key component of the HIRA complex that regulates chromatin remodeling, histone variant integration, and gene silencing in mammals. UBN2's role in the balance between apoptosis and autophagy is most pronounced in the context of acute myeloid leukemia, where its expression correlates inversely with tumor-suppressive microRNAs and influences patient prognosis. In mouse models, loss of Ubn2 causes sex-specific lethality due to defects in X chromosome inactivation, underscoring its essential role in gene dosage compensation and early embryonic viability. UBN2 interacts with other chromatin modifiers and transcriptional regulators and is being investigated as a potential therapeutic target in oncology and developmental biology[1][3].
