Ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase complex assembly factor 5 (UQCC5) is a protein located in the mitochondrial inner membrane that is essential for the assembly and stability of the mitochondrial ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase complex (complex III), as well as playing a role in the early steps of cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) assembly. It mediates biogenesis of complex III, participates in regulating levels of electron transport chain proteins in response to cellular energy demands, and is required for proper mitochondrial respiratory function. UQCC5 enables mitochondrial ribosome binding activity and is active in mitochondrial inner membrane protein complex organization[1][5][6].
