Overview

Ubiquitin-associated protein 2-like (UBAP2L) is a protein of 1,087 amino acids containing a ubiquitin-associated domain, an arginine-glycine-glycine (RGG/RG) domain, predicted RNA-binding regions, and a domain of unknown function (DUF). UBAP2L shuttles between the cytoplasm and nucleus and is involved in multiple processes: it promotes translation, regulates cell division by ensuring proper chromosome alignment and spindle assembly, and is essential for stress granule (SG) assembly in response to cellular stress. Methylation of its RGG domain by PRMT1 is necessary for accurate mitotic progression. UBAP2L is upregulated in several cancers and dysregulates pathways such as PI3K/Akt and NF-κB, contributing to oncogenic processes. No documented direct drug interactions, pharmacologic inhibitors, or validated biomarkers for clinical use are currently reported. Safety concerns are primarily related to its role in tumorigenesis and cell proliferation.
