Overview

Ubiquitin B pseudogene 2 (UBBP2) is a processed pseudogene derived from the Ubiquitin B (UBB) gene, formed by reverse transcription and reinsertion into the genome[5]. Processed pseudogenes like UBBP2 lack regulatory regions and typically do not produce functional proteins. While the canonical ubiquitin genes (such as UBB) play essential roles in protein degradation, gene regulation, and disease, current evidence does not support functional translation or biological activity for UBBP2. To date, only UBB pseudogene 4 (UBBP4) shows evidence for protein coding and alternative biological functions among the UBB pseudogene family[4]. UBBP2 is not a druggable or therapeutic target. The only UBB pseudogene with experimental evidence of translation and cellular activity is UBBP4 (“KEKS” variant), not UBBP2[4]. There is no evidence for UBBP2's expression or functional protein product, nor for any disease or molecular pathway association.
