Overview

UBE2D3P1 (Ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 D3 pseudogene 1) is a non-functional pseudogene located in the human genome, resembling the gene structure of UBE2D3—a member of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 family. Unlike its parental counterparts, UBE2D3P1 does not encode a protein and has no enzymatic activity. Pseudogenes generally arise from duplication or mutation events rendering them transcriptionally inactive or unable to form functional protein products. There is currently no evidence that UBE2D3P1 is involved in any regulatory RNA function or associated with human diseases. It should not be mistaken for UBE2D3, an active ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme involved in key signaling, protein turnover, and pathways regulating cell cycle and apoptosis.
