Ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 N pseudogene 1 (UBE2NP1) is a pseudogene related to the functional gene UBE2N, which encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. As a pseudogene, UBE2NP1 does not code for a functional protein. Instead, its transcript displays lncRNA-like properties, exerting biological effects through mechanisms such as the competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) effect. In particular, UBE2NP1 has been observed to be upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it promotes cell proliferation and resistance to apoptosis by regulating the miR-145-5p/RGS3 axis. Its expression correlates with poor prognosis in HCC. Despite these findings, UBE2NP1 itself does not constitute a protein or receptor, nor is it a direct target for therapeutics or drugs, but rather, it acts through RNA-mediated regulatory networks[1][4][7].
