Ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other, pseudogene
01

Overview

The ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 pseudogene is a DNA segment in the human genome (Ensembl: ENSG00000234061) that closely resembles the coding sequence of the functional ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 (UFM1) gene, but due to accumulated mutations, it cannot produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are considered genomic relics and are largely non-functional, usually originating by gene duplication events or retrotransposition. Most pseudogenes, such as this one, do not participate in cell signaling, metabolic processes, or serve as drug targets, though a few may exert rare regulatory RNA functions in disease. There is no evidence that ENSG00000234061 is directly implicated in disease, acts as a biomarker, or interacts with known drugs. It should not be considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target.
