Ubiquitin protein ligase E3A antisense transcript (UBE3A-ATS)

Target
UBE3A-ATS
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA
01

Overview

The Ubiquitin protein ligase E3A antisense transcript (UBE3A-ATS) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense DNA strand at the UBE3A gene locus. It functions primarily to silence the paternal copy of UBE3A in neurons through transcriptional interference. UBE3A-ATS plays a key regulatory role in genomic imprinting and its disruption is a potential therapeutic strategy for Angelman Syndrome.
