Overview

Ubiquitin specific peptidase 17-like family member 4 (USP17L4) is a human protein encoded by the USP17L4 gene, located on chromosome 8. It is a predicted member of the deubiquitinase (DUB) family, with sequence homology to other cysteine-type DUBs, but is noted as being enzymatically inactive. Computational and expression data suggest USP17L4 may be involved in the regulation of apoptotic processes and protein stability, localizing to the endoplasmic reticulum, cytosol, and nucleus. No confirmed biological functions, disease roles, or interacting drugs have been established for USP17L4, distinguishing it from other functional USP family enzymes. Its paralogs include USP17L8, and it is one of several USP17-like genes annotated in the human genome, but its functional significance remains largely uncharacterized[1][3][4][5][7].
