The "ubiquitin specific peptidase 6 pseudogene" is a nonfunctional DNA sequence in the human genome that shares strong sequence homology with the functional gene ubiquitin-specific peptidase 6 (USP6), but it is incapable of producing a functional protein product[2][4]. Pseudogenes like this result from mutations, insertions, or deletions that disrupt gene function, and they are common features in eukaryotic genomes. Although previously considered genomic “junk,” ongoing research suggests some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles; however, this remains an exception rather than the rule, and for ENSG00000277766 no such regulatory or disease association is established[6][2][4].
