Overview

Ubiquitously expressed transcript protein (UXT), also known as androgen receptor trapped clone 27 protein (ART-27), is a prefoldin-like protein encoded by the UXT gene on chromosome Xp11.23. It functions mainly as a transcriptional co-regulator, interacting with the N-terminus of the androgen receptor (AR) and modulating AR-dependent transcription. UXT/ART-27 acts largely as a corepressor of the AR, suppressing the transcription of genes involved in cell proliferation. It is highly expressed in various normal and tumor tissues, including prostate and breast, and its reduced expression is linked to prostate cancer progression. UXT is also a centrosomal protein critical for centrosome organization and cell viability; its overexpression disrupts centrosome structure and may promote tumorigenesis. Although it plays essential roles in several cellular processes and diseases, it is not currently characterized as a direct therapeutic drug target, enzyme, transporter, or classical receptor[1][2][3][6][9].
