Overview

UBX domain protein 2A (UBXN2A) is a cytoplasmic and nuclear cofactor containing a ubiquitin regulatory X (UBX) domain. It acts as an adaptor for the AAA ATPase p97/VCP, participating in the ubiquitin-proteasome system and modulating the degradation of proteins integral to cell survival and tumor suppression, such as mot-2 and p53. UBXN2A is implicated in autophagy, ERAD processes, and acetylcholine receptor trafficking. Experimental evidence suggests it plays a role in inhibiting tumor growth and promoting apoptosis, particularly in colon cancer models. Its protein interactions position it as a central regulator of quality control pathways vital to cancer biology and neurodegenerative disorders.
