Overview

UDP-GlcNAc:betaGal beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 4 (B3GNT4) is an enzyme in the beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family, classified as a glycosyltransferase and encoded by the B3GNT4 gene in humans[4][5][6]. It is a type II transmembrane protein that preferentially uses lacto-N-neotetraose as a substrate and is involved in the synthesis of poly-N-acetyllactosamine chains, key components of glycoproteins and glycolipids important for cellular recognition and adhesion[5][6]. Consistent with the function of this enzyme family, B3GNT4 is essential in the biosynthesis of extended N-acetyllactosamine structures on glycoproteins, which play roles in modulating cell-cell interactions, immune response, and potentially in cancer progression, although direct disease links appear to be under-characterized in the available databases[4][5][6].
