UDP glucuronosyltransferase 1 family member A13 pseudogene (UGT1A13P) is a non-coding pseudogene and a member of the UGT1A gene locus on human chromosome 2q37.1. The UGT1A gene cluster encodes multiple UDP-glucuronosyltransferase enzymes critical for the phase II conjugation (glucuronidation) of various endogenous and exogenous substances. However, UGT1A13P, along with several other “AxxP” variants in the locus, is a pseudogene with no protein-coding capability and does not contribute to glucuronosyltransferase activity. It does not encode a functional enzyme, is not known to participate in drug metabolism, disease, or act as a biomarker or therapeutic target. UGT1A pseudogenes (including UGT1A13P) reside within the UGT1A locus, a complex that contains both functional UDP-glucuronosyltransferase genes and noncoding pseudogenes. UGT1A13P specifically lacks the capacity to produce a functional protein; it is classified as a pseudogene because of mutations or absence of coding capacity in its first exon. Functional UGT1A members (UGT1A1, UGT1A3–UGT1A10) contribute to glucuronidation, while pseudogenes like UGT1A13P do not. No drugs, disease associations, or mechanistic/therapeutic roles are attributed to UGT1A13P. There are no known biomarkers or safety issues related to this gene, nor is it used for patient selection or treatment monitoring.
