UDP glucuronosyltransferase 2 family pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

This target designates a human pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with functional UDP glucuronosyltransferase 2 family proteins. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. UDP glucuronosyltransferase 2 enzymes (UGT2) are important for glucuronidation, a key phase II metabolism pathway for detoxification and excretion of endogenous and xenobiotic substances, but a pseudogene in this family does not contribute to protein function or metabolism. There is no therapeutic, biological, or disease role attributed to this pseudogene[3][4].
