UHRF2 antisense RNA 1 (UHRF2-AS1)

Target
UHRF2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA, Antisense RNA
01

Overview

UHRF2 antisense RNA 1 (UHRF2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed antisense to the UHRF2 (ubiquitin-like with PHD and RING finger domains 2) gene locus. As with many antisense RNAs, UHRF2-AS1 is thought to participate in the regulation of its sense gene (UHRF2) or associated pathways through mechanisms such as chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, or epigenetic regulation. There is emerging evidence that altered expression of UHRF2-AS1 may be associated with the development or progression of certain cancers, but its precise functional roles remain to be fully clarified. UHRF2-AS1 is not a protein, receptor, or enzyme, and is not currently a direct target of any approved drugs.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for direct drugs. In theory, if targeted by ASOs or RNAi, the mechanism would involve RNA degradation or transcriptional inhibition.

Biomarkers

UHRF2-AS1 expression could serve as a potential biomarker in some cancer contexts, based on observed differential expression, but this is not well-established
