Ultrasound backscatter enhancement is a process in diagnostic imaging whereby the intensity of ultrasound waves reflected back from tissues is increased, often by using microbubble-based contrast agents intravenously[4][5][6]. These microbubbles possess high echogenicity, enabling a greater difference between the ultrasound signals from blood or organs and surrounding tissues. The result is improved visualization of blood vessels, lesions, or tissue structures, aiding in the diagnosis and assessment of disease[5][6]. Enhancement mechanisms also include advanced beamforming and signal processing techniques[5]. Targeted enhancement is possible by conjugating molecular ligands to microbubbles, allowing selective accumulation at sites of disease for molecular imaging purposes, but "ultrasound backscatter enhancement" itself is not a molecule, protein, receptor, or pharmacologic target[4][6].
