Ultraviolet B radiation (UVB)

Target
UVB
Molecular classification
Electromagnetic radiation
01

Overview

Ultraviolet B radiation is a highly energetic portion of solar ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 280 and 315 nm that primarily targets epidermal structures—especially DNA—causing acute effects like sunburn as well as chronic risks including various forms of skin cancer. It also plays an essential physiological role in vitamin D synthesis but must be carefully balanced due to its mutagenic potential at even low exposures.
