UMODL1 antisense RNA 1 (UMODL1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 21. It produces an antisense RNA transcript complementary to the UMODL1 gene, with regulatory potential in cell biology. Although it does not encode a protein, UMODL1-AS1 has been studied as a molecular biomarker: its expression and methylation status correlate with kidney function and several cancers, most notably non-small cell lung cancer and triple-negative breast cancer. UMODL1-AS1 does not appear to be a direct therapeutic target but may play a role in gene regulation, with clinical interest focused on its utility as a diagnostic or prognostic marker rather than as a modulator of signaling, metabolism, or transport.
