Unc-50 inner nuclear membrane RNA-binding protein (UNC50) is a conserved transmembrane protein localized to the inner nuclear membrane and is characterized by its capacity to bind RNA via an amino-terminal RNA recognition-like motif[1][2]. It is widely expressed in mammalian tissues, especially in brain, kidney, and testis. UNC50 plays a role in the cell surface expression of neuronal nicotinic receptors, likely by participating in their intracellular trafficking or assembly, although the protein has broader evolutionary conservation, being found in organisms without nicotinic receptors[1][2].
