Overview

UNC5B antisense RNA 1 (UNC5B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), 647 base pairs in length and composed of two exons, located as an antisense transcript to the intron 1 of the UNC5B gene. It is also known as UASR1 or TP53LC05. This RNA molecule does not encode a protein, but instead modulates gene expression through several mechanisms, including acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sequesters microRNAs. UNC5B-AS1 is upregulated in a variety of cancers (notably breast, ovarian, liver, and glioblastoma), where it can promote or suppress cancer cell proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition depending on cellular context. Its actions are mediated via signaling pathways such as AKT/mTOR or by modulating miRNA-targeted genes (e.g., sponging miR-4306 in hepatocellular carcinoma or miR-24-3p in glioblastoma). UNC5B-AS1 is being explored as an oncogenic marker and a potential prognostic biomarker in several malignancies, but is not a therapeutic target in the classical sense (such as a receptor or enzyme), and no drugs are directed against it[1][2][4][5].
