Overview

Uncharacterized protein KIAA0408 is a human protein of 694 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 79 kDa, encoded by the KIAA0408 gene located on chromosome 6[1][2][3][7][12]. It is also referred to by a number of aliases, including FLJ43995 and C6orf174[2][3]. The gene produces several transcript isoforms and is expressed in multiple tissues, with the highest expression appearing in the brain, fat, and lung[2][8][14]. It is also reported in glioblastoma cells, breast, testes, eye, kidney, T-lymphocytes, and many other tissues[2][8]. While the precise molecular or biological function of KIAA0408 remains unknown and it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or classic therapeutic target, there is data suggesting that its expression is increased in certain cancers and age-related contexts, and it is included in some lists for hereditary disease testing[2]. The protein structure consists largely of coiled-coil regions, and it is predicted to be localized in the nucleus[2]. Some studies report protein-protein interactions, but there are no known interacting drugs or disease-targeted mechanisms of action, and no safety concerns have been identified to date[2][12][3].
