Uncharacterized protein KIAA1143 is a 154-amino-acid protein encoded by the KIAA1143 gene located on human chromosome 3p21. This protein is present in all tissues, with highest expression in ovaries, followed by brain, thyroid, prostate, and urinary bladder. KIAA1143 contains a DUF4604 domain, which is conserved across eukaryotes but lacks a known molecular function. Motif analysis suggests potential roles in apoptotic regulation and cytoskeletal rearrangement. Immunohistochemical data and computational predictions indicate possible involvement in cell division/cytokinesis. It interacts experimentally with several cell cycle and cytoskeletal proteins (e.g., EAPP, ECD, PRPF8, APP). No paralogs are known in the human genome, but it has orthologs across many species, including mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. There is no established link to disease, nor is KIAA1143 known as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or receptor/enzyme/transporter of clinical significance.
