Target intelligence / Profile preview

Undecaprenyl phosphate recycling (C55-P Recycling)

Target
C55-P Recycling
Molecular classification
Lipid metabolism, Enzyme complex, Membrane transport
01

Overview

Undecaprenyl phosphate (UndP or C55-P) recycling is an essential process in bacteria involving the dephosphorylation and translocation of C55-PP to regenerate active C55-P, which is critical for cell wall synthesis. Inhibition of this process leads to accumulation of intermediates and cessation of peptidoglycan assembly, making it an attractive target for antibiotic development. Bacitracin inhibits this cycle.
