Overview

UNKL antisense RNA 1 (UNKL-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the antisense direction from the UNKL gene locus. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it may be involved in modulating the expression of its sense gene through chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or interaction with RNA-binding proteins. There is currently no direct evidence connecting UNKL-AS1 to specific biological functions, disease states, nor as a therapeutic target. Antisense lncRNAs in general play important roles in gene regulation and epigenetics, and some have been implicated in human cancers via regulation of neighboring sense genes. However, the evidence for a direct disease role, actionable drug interaction, or utility for UNKL-AS1 is lacking in the available literature.
