Up-regulated in solid tumor 1 (URST1) is a protein-coding gene that has been identified as being significantly overexpressed in various types of solid tumors, including lung, breast, and colon cancers. It plays a critical role in promoting cell proliferation and survival by modulating key signaling pathways involved in the cell cycle and apoptosis. Research indicates that URST1 may function as an oncogene, where its high expression correlates with advanced tumor stage and poor clinical prognosis. As a potential therapeutic target, URST1 is being investigated for its utility in cancer treatment. Strategies such as RNA interference (RNAi) or small molecule inhibitors are being explored to down-regulate its activity, thereby inhibiting tumor growth and enhancing the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy. While no specific drugs targeting URST1 are currently in clinical use, it remains a promising candidate for the development of novel precision oncology therapies.
