Overview
Uric acid excretion is the process by which the body eliminates uric acid, the end product of purine metabolism. It primarily involves renal excretion via glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption (mainly via URAT1), and tubular secretion (via OATs and MRP4). Intestinal excretion also contributes. Stimulation of uric acid excretion is targeted to treat hyperuricemia and gout.
