Uridine Receptor

Molecular classification
Receptor, Other
01

Overview

The term "uridine receptor" refers to a putative or hypothesized receptor in the brain that binds uridine. Evidence suggests that uridine may act as a signaling molecule in the central nervous system, particularly involved in sleep regulation. However, as of current scientific consensus, there is no well-characterized or cloned "uridine receptor" analogous to classic neurotransmitter receptors. Some biological effects attributed to “uridine” may be mediated by broader purinergic systems where complex nucleotides containing uracil act on known purinoceptors such as P2Y1R.
