Overview

Urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) is a GPI-anchored cell surface receptor that binds urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) and plays a central role in the plasminogen activation system, promoting pericellular proteolysis. It is involved in cell adhesion, migration, tissue remodeling, angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. uPAR is highly expressed in many malignant tumors and cancer-associated stromal cells, making it a therapeutic target. Soluble uPAR (suPAR) serves as a biomarker for systemic inflammation and chronic disease burden.
