Uroplakin 3B pseudogene 1 (UPK3BP1) is a noncoding pseudogene related to the UPK3B family, located in the human genome. Unlike UPK3B, which encodes for an urothelial-specific membrane protein involved in the stabilization of the apical surface of bladder epithelial cells, UPK3BP1 does not code for a functional protein, does not play a known biological role, and is not considered a druggable target or biomarker. "Uroplakin 3B" (UPK3B) is the established functional protein of interest in urothelium biology and cancer diagnostics, but UPK3BP1 is only a processed genomic relic without evidence of transcriptional or translational activity[1][4][5].
