USP9Y pseudogene 19 (USP9YP19) is a genomic DNA sequence annotated as a pseudogene on the Y chromosome. It is named for its similarity to the USP9Y gene, which encodes the functional deubiquitinase “ubiquitin specific peptidase 9, Y-linked.” Unlike USP9Y, USP9YP19 does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a functional molecular target. Pseudogenes like USP9YP19 are typically noncoding and originate from duplication or degeneration of ancestral gene sequences. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles or participate in gene expression modulation, there is no evidence suggesting USP9YP19 has biological function or clinical relevance as a therapeutic target. - There are multiple USP9Y pseudogenes annotated on the Y chromosome; these are generally considered non-functional gene copies or remnants from gene duplication events. - Unless future research discovers a specific regulatory or biomarker role, USP9YP19 should not be used as a therapeutic target.
