USP9Y pseudogene 21 (USP9YP21) is a non-coding DNA sequence on the human Y chromosome with similarity to the USP9Y gene but lacking protein-coding potential and enzymatic function[6]. While the parent gene USP9Y is an active deubiquitinase important in spermatogenesis and associated with male infertility[3][4], USP9YP21 does not produce protein and is generally annotated as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes like USP9YP21 do not serve as classical therapeutic drug targets. No known disease associations, biological functions, or drug interactions are reported for USP9YP21 specifically. It should not be confused with USP9Y, which is associated with male germ cell maintenance and infertility syndromes[3][4][5]. USP9YP21 is listed in genome browsers (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl) for reference and evolutionary studies[6][2]. USP9YP21 is a non-functional Y-linked pseudogene derived from USP9Y and should not be considered a pharmacological target. Any drug targeting is relevant only to the functional USP9Y gene, not its pseudogenes[6][3][5].
