Overview

USP9Y pseudogene 8 (USP9YP8) is one of several pseudogenes in the human genome that are related to the Y-linked deubiquitinase USP9Y[4][5]. It does not encode an active protein and has no established biological or clinical functions. Pseudogenes like USP9YP8 typically result from duplication, mutation, or recombination events that render them non-functional. While the parent gene USP9Y is a member of the peptidase C19 family and involved in male germ cell development, USP9YP8 does not produce a protein or participate in these biological processes[1][3][4][5]. There is no evidence that USP9YP8 acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target. USP9YP8 must not be confused with the functional gene USP9Y (ubiquitin specific peptidase 9 Y-linked), which encodes a deubiquitinase involved in sperm production and is associated with male infertility[1][2][3]. USP9Y pseudogenes, including USP9YP8, are sometimes referenced in genomic studies but lack clinical or pharmacological relevance[4][5].
