Target intelligence / Profile preview
Utrophin is a cytoskeletal protein structurally and functionally similar to dystrophin. It anchors the cytoskeleton to the plasma membrane and is upregulated in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) as a compensatory mechanism. Therapeutic strategies aim to further upregulate utrophin to stabilize muscle cell membranes in the absence of functional dystrophin.
Upregulation of utrophin to compensate for dystrophin deficiency in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
