Overview

Vγ9Vδ2 T cells are a subset of gamma-delta (γδ) T cells, a type of unconventional T lymphocyte. They play crucial roles in antimicrobial immunity and tumor surveillance by recognizing phosphoantigens in a butyrophilin-dependent manner and do not require MHC presentation. Vγ9Vδ2 T cells can directly kill infected or cancerous cells, secrete cytokines, and present antigens to other immune cells. They are being explored as a promising target for cancer immunotherapy.
