Overview

V-set and transmembrane domain-containing protein 4 (VSTM4) is a protein encoded by the VSTM4 gene located on human chromosome 10[1][4]. The protein is predicted to be a transmembrane molecule and may function at the plasma membrane or in extracellular regions[1][6]. Functionally, VSTM4 enhances L-type voltage-gated calcium channel currents in retinal photoreceptors, suggesting roles in visual signaling and retinal cellular physiology[1][2][6]. Additionally, it is implicated in endothelial cell proliferation, retina blood vessel maintenance, and vasculature development[1]. There are associations between VSTM4 copy number variation and syndromic diseases such as Jackson-Weiss syndrome[1]. No evidence currently defines VSTM4 as a therapeutic drug target, receptor, or molecule with immune checkpoint activity, and there are no clinical trials or approved drugs acting on this target[1][2][7]. VSTM4's previous aliases include C10orf72 and Peptide Lv[1][4].
