Overview

The Vac14 homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000258065), also known as "VAC14 component of PIKFYVE complex pseudogene" or "LOC100420424," is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence similar to the functional VAC14 gene locus. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events but lack the ability to encode a functional protein due to mutations, truncations, or lack of necessary regulatory elements. This pseudogene does not produce an active scaffold protein, and so is not involved in phosphoinositide metabolism, endosomal transport, or any direct biological function attributed to the functional VAC14 gene. There is no evidence that this pseudogene is considered a therapeutic target or is directly associated with disease or drug response.
