Target intelligence / Profile preview

Vaccinia-related kinase 1 (VRK1)

Target
VRK1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Ser/Thr protein kinase
01

Overview

Vaccinia-related kinase 1 (VRK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in cell cycle regulation, nuclear envelope assembly, transcriptional regulation, and DNA damage response. It stabilizes and activates p53, and its overexpression is associated with poor prognosis in several cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma. VRK1 is considered a potential therapeutic target for cancer and proliferative diseases.
